Parasaur alerts in Discord — turn the parasaur's turret mode into a Discord ping before anything is destroyed

4 min read · updated 2026-08-22

The parasaur in turret mode detects enemy players and tames at range and shows an alert on the HUD. Detecting that alert on screen gives you a Discord ping before the first shot.

Every other alert in this series fires after something is lost. The parasaur is the exception: set to turret mode, it scans for enemy players and tames and raises an on-screen alert while they are still approaching. Forwarding that to Discord is the closest thing official servers have to radar.

Set up the parasaur

  1. Tame a parasaur (any level; detection range doesn't scale much with level).
  2. Enable Turret Mode in its options and place it where it covers the approach to your base — it needs line of sight to where enemies will be.
  3. Make sure the client running the bot stands close enough to render the parasaur's alert on its HUD. The alert is client-side; the bot reads the HUD of the logged-in character.

Teach the bot what the alert looks like

Alert icons differ by resolution and HUD scale, so ASA Tribe Log Bot lets you capture it once: when the alert is on screen (trigger it with a tribemate on another account, or wait for a wild-dino false positive), open the Auto-Reconnect tab → Parasaur alert icon → Capture and drag a tight box around the icon. From then on the bot template-matches it every two seconds. Extras → Parasaur alert detect turns it on; a match strictness of 0.85 is a good start.

What happens on detection

  • An embed in the alert channel with a crop of the HUD around the icon.
  • A full screenshot to #screen-check if enabled — so you see what the parasaur saw.
  • @mention and siren, if "on parasaur alert" is ticked in the mention/sound rules.
  • A 60-second cooldown so one long alert doesn't spam.

False positives

Parasaurs also react to wild dinos in some situations. If you get too many, raise the strictness slightly, and keep the siren on the structure-destroyed threshold rule instead of on parasaur alone. Many tribes use parasaur = ping, destroyed = siren.

Questions

Does the parasaur need to be near the logged-in character?

The alert renders on the HUD of clients in range, so park the bot's character where it receives the alert — usually at the base.

Can I use a Tek sensor instead?

Yes — Tek sensors write to the tribe log, which the bot reads anyway; parasaurs are the budget option and detect at range.
